THIS IS AN IDEAL GIFT FOR TWO CHILDREN! Mar 10, 2010 My grandchildren just love this easel! Because it has two sides, two children can play with it at the same time...so no fighting! It keeps them quiet and happy for hours! As one side is for painting & the other side is a blackboard...they can just trade sides when they are ready for a change.
It would be nice if erasers came with this, but they were simple & inexpensive to find at an office supply store.
You need to buy your colored chalk, paper & paints, but some people already have this before they even buy the easel. Melissa & Doug do sell these accessories. Love the colored clips that fasten your pages to the easel board. All in all, a great gift at an affordable price! I was able to get a sale price of almost half off the store price through Amazon.com. The easel came within days! I am a very happy grandmother! Susan Allman-Carlo~~Boston
Terrible chalkboard, overall just okay Mar 09, 2010 I like the fact that the easel is wood, but I have to confess, I am very disappointed with the product, particularly the chalkboard. My daughter can barely get a piece of chalk to make a mark on it. My husband gauged scratches in it when he tried to force a chalk mark on it. It simply doesn't work.
The assembly, though not too difficult, seemed overly cumbersome with too many little pieces that everyone is tempted to unscrew after it is assembled. The colored knobs simply beg to be twisted.
I used to be a preschool teacher and we had those big plastic little tikes easels, and I have to say, they were much easier to clean and manage. You could just take them outside and hose them off. They were extremely durable too. With the particle board backing, I don't think the M&D easel will withstand that kind of clean-up.
Overall, I think Melissa & Doug could have done a much better job with the product.
Good One! Mar 03, 2010 My 5yr old daughter loves to write and draw so we bought her this. She goes through notebooks like crazy. She uses this, but still likes her notebooks. I really thought she would use it more. We have yet to put the paper for painting on it, doesn't look hard to do though and so far we are enjoying the other features! I do think it is a good easel. We have only had it for a few months, but did have to move it due to being with family for Christmas. It survived the move! Seems durable, and I hope it is as we hope it lasts for her younger sisters!
another 5 star review Feb 19, 2010 We bought it for Christmas and it has been in daily use for the last 2 months. We just clip individual pieces of paper to each side instead of using the roll. Construction is solid enough, a little wobbly but acceptable. No problem putting it together from Amazon package version. My wife did it in 10 minutes.
Great toy - child age 4 and up Feb 15, 2010 This is a great board. My son is learning letters and can practice on this board. We currently use only the white board side. We also use it for painting with a large sheet of paper. Less mess than when done on the table.
